Apple Watch will get a built-in update mechanism in watchOS 6

Apple Watch Review

The main disadvantage of the Apple Watch, which made it not attractive enough to buy, was its lack of independence. The deep connection with the iPhone, without which the smart watch could literally do nothing, in many ways became the reason for the formation of their image as an exclusively auxiliary accessory.

This arrangement did not suit Apple very much, and the company decided to make the Apple Watch more self-sufficient, first equipping them with LTE support, then giving them their own App Store, and now also providing a built-in update mechanism.

The Apple Watch update mechanism, which allows you to download updates over the air, was discovered in the second beta of watchOS 6. Although it still requires confirmation of the update on the iPhone at the moment, it is assumed that in the future this will be optional, and users will be able to download updates directly from the watch itself.

Most likely, only Apple Watch smart watches with a built-in LTE module will be able to update on their own completely without an iPhone, while owners of models without direct access to the Network will have to use the connection of a tethered smartphone. Otherwise, the watch will have no place to get the update image, which is stored on Apple servers. But how it will actually be, we will find out only with the release of the final version of watchOS 6 in September this year.
